Still working on the fluted hammers, and the next batch of Roundhead bodies, but snuck this in on the mill.  Broached hex is the same size as the CCI velocity adjuster rod.

Yet another "tweek" that some people use to improve gas efficiency by giving the CO2 a more direct path out the barrel.

IS anyone willing to guess what kind of improvement this would give?

Well, I'm hoping someone will pop up and say "hey, I'll test it and report back on how it compares with a stock TPC"...  And if it turns out to be a reasonable performance increase, I'll ponder doing a run of 30 of them.

I know it will be rougher on paint - that's why Mike Casady came up with the TPC in the first place, as the straight airflow path was blowing up more fragile paint.

it may be rougher but that coupled with a softer main spring should counter it. im not 100% on that its just a prediction. i can tell you im all for the work your doing cant wait till the project is completed and unfortunately im not playing enough right now to be a good test subject for you. keep us in the loop im absolutely interested in that and your fluted hammer. and bored powertube.

I used a chopped TPC on my Phantom for a few months last year. It allowed me to run lower pressure (500-600 psi) and still get to 300 fps. I cannot comment on any performance increase as it would be entirely conjectural. It seems to make each shot a bit louder though.

I'd be more than willing to test it for you, Hell any ideas you get I'll test.  The Gargoyle setup makes testing parts easy because you can run a 12ie through with one setup, change out the part in under a minute and run the replacement part through a 12ie.

I'd like a couple of these to try in the Redux, with its paint-shredding 6.25-inch barrel. Wink

HaveBlue: let me know how to get my hands on these.

You know me I would buy one just to try even if they were not necessarily more efficient.   I could give one a go this year during our tournament season.

So what is it going to cost me to buy one to test for you?

FYI, see this thread over on M.CB: http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/ask-experts/94543-drilling-phantom-nelson-tpc.html

Photo from that thread:

I would suggest completely chopping the front of the TPC off, THEN milling the thick, threaded section that remains to accept the hexagonal velocity adjuster rod.

I suspect my success had a lot to do with the added distance between the TPC and the paint; there's a large volume for the gas to expand into before hitting the ball.

I would LOVE to have a version milled to take the hex adjuster.
